Social Card is run by CJW Ventures LLC. This explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it. Questions: info@socialcard.gg.
The short version: we collect what the app needs to work and nothing else. We don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
What we collect
- Your card: name, username, bio, tags, and photo, as you enter them.
- A backup email address, only if you add one. It is used to move your account to a new phone, and for nothing else.
- Your connections: who you connected with and when, plus anything either of you adds to an encounter (a name for it, a place you type in, a note, photos).
- Your messages, and photos you send in them.
- How you have arranged the app: your boards, saved pools, and what you have read, so they follow you to a new phone.
- What you send us through the lightning bolt, and any reports you make.
- Technical basics: a key that identifies your phone to our servers, a notification token if you allow notifications, your app version, and short-lived security logs (for example, sign-in attempts and rate limits).
We do not collect your contacts, your location, or your photo library. The camera is used on your phone to read codes; what it sees is not sent to us. A place on an encounter is text you typed, or a place name your phone looked up when you tapped the location button: that lookup happens on your phone through Apple Maps, and only the name you keep reaches us, never your location itself.
Who sees what
- Your card is visible to the people you connect with, and to the people they are connected with. Nobody further.
- Who you are connected to is visible to those same people, unless you hide your connections from someone. Hiding works both ways: neither of you sees the other’s connections.
- An encounter’s name, place, note, and photos are visible only to the two people in it.
- Messages are visible only to the two people in the chat.
- People you block can’t message you, and you can’t message them. They are not told.
How we use it
To run the app: showing your card to the people allowed to see it, delivering messages and notifications, moving your account to a new phone, keeping the service secure, and responding to reports. We do not use your data for advertising or to build profiles, and we do not sell or rent it.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that help us run the service, and only as needed to do that: our hosting and database provider, file storage for photos, our email delivery provider (for backup and recovery emails), and Apple (to deliver notifications). We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone from serious harm.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Your account is tied to a key stored in your phone’s secure hardware, so there is no password to steal. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted: they are stored on our servers so they can be delivered and moved to a new phone, and we may look at reported messages to act on a report.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account in Settings, your card, connections, messages, and photos are deleted. Messages you delete are removed for both people. Reports, and the security logs above, may be kept after an account is deleted so that rules can still be enforced; they are kept no longer than needed.
Your choices
- Edit your card or remove your photo at any time.
- Hide your connections from anyone, disconnect from anyone, block anyone.
- Delete messages you sent.
- Turn notifications off in your phone’s settings.
- Delete your account and everything with it in Settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, at info@socialcard.gg. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we will honour them wherever you are.
Children
Social Card is not for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using it, tell us (you can report them in the app as “Under 13”) and we will remove the account.
Where your data is
Our servers are in the United States (Dallas, Texas). If you use Social Card from elsewhere, your data is transferred there.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
